Aphids (Greenfly and Blackfly)
Found on a wide range of plants, these insects suck the plant sap which weakens the plant and causes the foliage to discolour and deform. Aphids produce a sticky deposit (honeydew) which turns black on plants.
Control with Adult Ladybirds Adalia bipunctata
A well-known beneficial insect to gardeners.
On release they will fly to the nearest aphid colony, feed on aphids and other pests. Adult ladybirds will also feed on the eggs of moths and other pests. Adults will lay more eggs and produce a second colony.
Use regular introductions between May and September for effective control.
