Raspberry Beetle Traps & Refills

from £18.99
Tax included.

Raspberry beetle (Byturus tomentosus) maggots cause serious damage to raspberries, loganberries and blackberries. Adult beetles are trapped before the crop flowers.

The adult beetle is inconspicuous, about 4mm long and dark brown in colour. It overwinters in the soil, emerging from April to early June.

It feeds on leaves, flower buds and pollen, then laying up to 120 eggs in individual flowers. On hatching the larvae feed inside the developing fruit and are often found in the raspberries at picking.

The Agralan Raspberry Beetle Trap allows you to detect early signs of the beetle with its funnel trap designed to catch and kill adult beetles as they emerge from the soil in the spring. The large off-white vanes combined with a floral attractant lure act as a "super raspberry flower" that is irresistible to the beetles and draws them into the trap, permanently removing them from your crop.

Manufactured in the UK from recycled plastic.

When to use

Place 1m above ground 4-6 weeks before the first flowering during April to July. 2 replacement lures required every normal raspberry season (6 weeks)

The trap should be used 4-6 weeks before flowering (April-May). One lure will be suitable to cover this period. However with later flowering hybrid berries e.g. Loganberries, or autumn fruiting raspberries, a second replacement attractant lure is recommended.

Each trap protects 50sqm.

Refills allow for a further seasons use.

How to use

Remove the bucket of the trap and pour in 4-5cm of water with a little vegetable oil or washing up liquid. Remove the lure from the foil sachet, roll it up and place inside the cage, replacing the lid. Place the cage containing the attractant lure into the circular hole at the top of the trap. Hang the trap 1m-1.6m above the ground near the raspberry plants. Ensure and refill the water mix if necessary.

Storage: after use, empty, clean and store the trap out of the direct sunlight for re-use the following season. Any unopened lures should be stored in a cool dry place. If adult beetles are still caught after flowering has started, additional control measures may be needed.
